FAQS
Here are some answers to some frequently asked questions we get. If you have others feel free to contact us.
WHAT DOES YOUR DEVICE DO?
ODEN's opioid overdose detection device will be able to detect opioid overdoses in users who are consuming drugs alone. This device will monitor the users vital signs in order to determine when an overdose is occurring, and alert emergency services with the users location.
WHY IS THIS DEVICE BETTER THAN THE OTHER SERVICES AVAILABLE?
This device is not meant to replace any of the other harm reduction services available, it is meant to compliment them! We want to give people who use unsupervised an additional method of receiving supervision. This device can be especially helpful in rural areas, indigenous communities, and other areas where people may not have access to harm reduction services. This device will also give people more convenience and more choice in the supervision method they use!
HOW DOES THE DEVICE WORK?
The device monitors a person’s vital signs while they consume opioids. When the vital signs reach overdose levels, an overdose event is detected. First a local alarm will sound so anyone in the area can respond. If it was an erroneous detection or someone responds, the device can be silenced. If it is not silenced an emergency notification will be sent directly to emergency services with your location. All of this is done from one device, attached to your wrist, without the need to connect to anything else!
WHAT ABOUT MY PRIVACY?
We hold the privacy of our users in the highest regard. The data collected while monitoring the user is used only for determining if an overdose has occurred, and to better understand the physiology and location of overdoses. The data is always anonymous, and will not be used for anything other than to help prevent overdoses from happening.
WHERE CAN I PURCHASE THIS DEVICE?
This device is currently in development, and will be available as soon as possible. The device will be available for purchase through a few different channels, and more information on how to purchase the device will be available before it is released. Please join our mailing list to get updates on the release.
I THINK YOU SPELLED ODIN WRONG? WHY ARE YOU NAMED AFTER A NORSE GOD?
We didn't spell it wrong! Although very close to the Norse god Odin, our name is an acronym that stands for Overdose Detection and Emergency Notification. But we appreciate the comparison to Norse mythology, and included an homage to the Norse Tree of Life in our logo!
